About Me

Independent Support Worker

Hi, my name is Karen.  My journey into care work started in 2016 when I became a full-time carer for my mother who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As her carer I  co-ordinated all her appointments, looked after her medication administration, personal care and was emotional support until September of 2016 upon her passing.  It was at this time I discovered my passion for caring for others and decided to pursue a career in support work. I started in February 2017 with Flintwood working in both group homes and day programs with clients that had various conditions and disabilities. In 2018 I started working for Inala Disability Services. Whilst working at Inala I continued to develop my training by completing my Certificate 4 in Disabilities and I have done multiple in-house training courses with both Flintwood and Inala.

A particular highlight of my career was during the Covid 19 pandemic peak I was one of the staff to support many Covid 19 positive clients.  During this time, I learnt a lot and supported some very unwell clients back to health.  A little about me.  I’m an animal lover and have a fur baby called Bailey, whom I enjoy spending time. Below is a pic taken with him in the local dog park. I enjoy cooking (mainly desserts), gardening, movies, going to the beach, new age/natural healing/meditation/massage, picnics and ghost/historical tours.  I would describe myself as being loyal, reliable, caring, social and having an outgoing personality and a good sense of humour. I take pride in the work I do and enjoy helping others.

I learnt at a young age the value of older people & the wonderful stories they can tell.  I also have family and friends who have various disabilities and I enjoy being involved in helping them achieve their milestones.  As an adult I did 7 years of Karate obtaining my brown belt and have been a Justice of the Peace for over nineteen years.  Prior to working in the community sector, I have worked in various administration positions in real estate, medical and typing services. I have also worked in catering in roles such as kitchen hand, waitress and chef/cook.
